Missouri Teacher Education Scholarship
 
Requirements Be a Missouri resident. Be a high school senior or student enrolled fulltime at a community or four-year college or university in Missouri. Rank in the top 15% of their high school class or score in the top 15 national percentile on an ACT or SAT examination.

If you later decide not to pursue teaching, you are required to return the financial aid.

Missouri Minority Teaching Scholarship
 
Requirements Be a Missouri resident. Be African American, Asian American, Hispanic American, or Native American. Be a high school senior, college student or returning adult (without a degree) who ranks in the top 25 percent of their high school class or scores in the top 25 national percentile on an ACT or SAT examination. Or, individuals who have completed 30 college hours and have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0. Or, individuals with a baccalaureate degree who are returning to an approved math or science teacher education program. Minority Teaching Scholarship recipients who fail to complete a teacher education program, or who fail to teach in Missouri public schools for five years after graduation, must repay the amount of the scholarship funded by the State.

Forgivable Loan Program
   
  Established by HB 889, this program would establish forgivable loans for individuals who agree to teach in teacher shortage areas.

Loan Forgiveness
   
Requirements Information is provided to Missouri teachers about obtaining forgiveness and deferment for their federal Perkins and Stafford Loans. If a teacher is teaching in a teacher shortage area as determined by the U.S. Department of Education, or is teaching in a building which is considered "impoverished" by the state because of its free and reduced lunch count, that teacher is eligible for loan forgiveness or deferment. Stafford interest can be lowered by 2% for teachers.

TEACHERS FIRST Challenge Scholarship
   
Requirements Missouri Colleges Fund (MCF)
MCF has created a TEACHERS FIRST Challenge Scholarship Program to respond to the critical teacher shortage in the public elementary and secondary classrooms across the state. The challenge was sponsored by the banking industry in 1998 and the state's leading brokerage firms in 1999. For 2000, representatives of the telecommunications industry have pledged the matching funds. Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding needy students enrolled in the education programs of the member colleges. Scholarships of approximately $2,000 will be awarded to encourage them to become teachers.

Missouri Retired Teachers Association Scholarship
   
Requirements New Teacher Scholarship Program began with scholarships to be awarded to active teachers and to students officially enrolled in teacher education programs who are committed to teaching in Missouri schools. Five scholarships in the amount of $1,000 were awarded to eligible applicants.

NEA's Jack Kinnaman Scholarship
   
  This scholarship was created in memory of our NEA-Retired Vice President and former Advisory Council member, Jack Kinnaman. He also represented NEA-Retired with NEA's Fund for Children and Public Education and held during his career several other local, state, and national Association positions.
He is most fondly remembered for wearing the "Cat in the Hat" costume during NEA's Read Across America events. He cared about students-especially ones who needed a helping hand financially. His family wanted scholarships to go to these students.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be an active participant in the NEA Student Program on the local, state and/or national level, be able to demonstrate financial need, carry a 2.5 or better grade point average,
print and submit a completed application. In addition, include two (2) letters of recommendation-one from the faculty advisor of your NEA Student Program chapter- the other from someone who is not a relative.

Student must be a full-time junior or senior elementary education major with a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 GPA in elementary education.
 
Empo Allen Harmon Scholarship ($1,300)
Student must be a full-time sophomore or above pursuing a career in early childhood education. Recipient must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Biology Alumni Scholarship Fund
Criteria: Scholarship awarded annually to high school seniors in the St. Louis area planning to attend UM-St. Louis in the fall term as biology major. Applicants judged on academic achievement (science especially), interest and participation in science activities, good community spirit and expressed interest in teaching biology.

Missouri Western State University
 
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International: The Alpha Mu Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is offering a recruitment grant for $500 to college women in need of funds to complete their degree in education. Applicants must be residents of Clay County or Platte County in Missouri. They must also be a declared education major having been accepted into the teacher education program, and a second semester sophomore or junior. Gamma Theta Memorial Recruitment Grant: The grant is intended to assist women of the Kansas City Northland area who desire to become educators. One grant of $300 shall be awarded to the selected recipient for the year. The grant will be applied to their junior or senior year in the college of their choice. George M. Ashworth Memorial Scholarship: Recipients of this scholarship shall be a junior or senior, majoring in elementary or middle school education, and from northwest Missouri. They must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and demonstrate need. (Apply - Education Dept.)

 
The Kappa Delta Pi Outstanding Junior Scholarship For Elementary & Secondary Student Awardees: The award is given to one student in elementary education and one student in secondary education. The two scholarships differ from the other departmental scholarships in that the students do NOT apply for the scholarship. It is awarded by the education faculty in the spring of each year after students have been enrolled in their "Experience in Teaching II" course. As evidence of superior academic achievement and leadership skills, the students must be members of Kappa Delta Pi, the national education honor society for undergraduates in education. The amount of the award will vary as the scholarship fund increases. Alumni of the college are welcome to give to the fund as a part of their annual giving program. (Apply - Education Dept.)

Culver-Gettys Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is given in memory of Lt. Col. Charles M. Culver and Capt. Hugh M. Gettys. The scholarship is available to degree-seeking students who have competed a minimum of 28 college hours. The students should have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better and show evidence of financial need. If the students continue to achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.5, the scholarship may be continued for the second semester. Preferably, the students should be planning a career in education.
