Mathematics and Science Teacher Leadership Academy
 
Overview
Missouri needs strong leadership in K-12 education, especially in mathematics and science. Effective teacher-leaders are committed to improving teaching and learning beyond their own classrooms. The Leadership Academy is designed to help teacher-leaders develop the knowledge and skills to be change agents in their schools, districts, and regions.
 
Expectations of Academy Fellows:
 
  • Attend the 4-day Summer Academy;
     
  • Develop and implement a Leadership Action Plan during 2007-2008 school year;
     
     
    Benefits to Academy Fellows:
     
  • High quality professional development in the knowledge and skills needed to initiate, implement, and support standards-based mathematics or science education reform;
     
  • Access to faculty mentors and professional resources;
     
  • All food and lodging during the Academy;
  • No registration fee;
     
  • Professional books and other materials;
     
  • $400 stipend for attending the Academy;
     
  • $500 budget for implementing your Action Plan;
         
    Who should apply?
     
  • Mathematics and Science teachers, grades 6-12, who have 5 years or more teaching experience and teacher leadership potential.
